Starting EVe

I am just starting EVE and I was wondering if someone could advise what is best : download via EVE website or via steam

Also, the subscription is the only thing you pay right ? so you do not have to pay for anything (like ingame items) extra right ?

I downloaded from the website, it doesn't really matter where you download it from, it comes down to personal choice, I guess.
