Hello all,
I haven't post here for a long time, so now to fulfill my writing pleasure I decided to get my brain cells moving and my fingers to start working on the keyboard in order to share with you my emotions from some movies i saw recently... I'll start with "Scary Movie 4" a film brought to us by the creators of "Airplane!" and "Top Secret !" (Zucker, Abrahams, Zucker) and this time without any of the Wayans brothers in the front and the back ground... What it is shown from it is the lack of originality which appears more bigger this time, along with some old and not funny jokes (apart from one or two occasions) which makes out of this film a bit tedious experience... The movies fooled with this time are "The War of the Worlds", "The Grudge", "Saw", "The Village", and a few more, but the main "funny" situations are centered around these four... If you are fan of the previous movies in the series, you'll probably like it, but if not - stay away from this one, it will waste 90 minutes of your time...
Next movie is "Fun with Dick and Jane" a remake of a film with the same title, but this time the main characters are played by Jim Carey and Tea Leoni (the beautiful wife of David Duchovni - that lucky b***ard) which are forced to become criminals in order to survive after the company where Dick (Jim Carey) works bankrupts and the CEO (played by Alec Baldwin) walks away with the main fund shares leaving a lot of unemployed people. The movie is not bad, considering the fact that Jim Carey has the chance to show again his mimics and moves, but it could have been better - the story itself is plain and understandable which is a good point for being watched by a different audiences...
Follows a film which is confusing and over complicated with basically no scary moments (unless you have a pathological fear from jumping sheeps) "The Dark". The title itself can lead you to a clue that it's going to be either a horror or dark thriller, and infact it starts pretty well with a mother and daughter going to see the divorced father/husband now living on a deserted land somewhere in Whales... After series of unexplained events the daughter disappears and then the movie becomes creepingly boring... Switching between dreams of the mother and real events the movie goes too complicated at a time with so many sub events which will confuse you totally and the only thing which made me laugh were those jumping sheeps...
And now I'll present you a movie which was one of the best I saw recently reminding me of the good old days of "Pulp Fiction", "Lock, Stock and two smoking barrels" and "Snatch". The name is "Lucky # Slevin" and it is a really good movie - in direction, through photography and the solid acting from actors like Morgan Freeman, Bruce Willis, Ben Kingsley and Josh Hartnett (which shows really good development in his character). The plot is very interesting and involving with different perspectives and views which will keep you guessing up until the final scene, a good example of how such movies should be make. And Bruce Willis is awesome as a hired killer which identity is hidden quite well through out the whole movie which adds a special touch to the movie and brings it close to the best examples in this genre... Watch it and you won't be disappointed (I hope)...
The last two movies are from my favorite genre - martial arts, so I'll describe them just briefly because the space won't be enough to make a well deserved review here... First one is an old movie from the "Golden" period of Jackie Chan (when he departs from company of Lo Wei and goes into the new company "Golden Harvest" hold by his close friend Raymond Chow) titled "Dragon Lord" (1980) shot entirely in Taiwan, because Jackie was under death thread in Hong Kong by some Triad members related to Lo Wei who was seeking revenge after Jackie left his company... On the set of this movie Jackie met his wife a Taiwanese actress to whom he is still married thus making "Dragon Lord" one of the main films in Jackie's personal life... It has good fighting, action choreography and llots of laughs too. A must for all martial arts fans... The second one is a virtually unknown movie (by me also) with the title "The Hero of Swallow" starring absolutely agile and fast martial actor Yuen Biao (close friend of Jackie from a very long time) and htis movie inspired Ang Lee to make "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon". It's an old movie also (1993), but has a charisma and beauty of those movies which gain the "classic" status once viewed... It is a bit long review from me this time, but I hope that it's going to be useful to some of you... It was a pleasure for me to write this thread, wish you all the best and greetings from Bulgaria....
Cheers from The Grim Reaper (BG)
