Today is a good day for a review (I think)...And the movie this time is "Shaolin Soccer" directed, written, produced and starring Stephen Chow, again mixing a peculiar ingredients to create a piece of entertainment which is not very often seen amongst today's creations of movie industry...It is solid comedy film, where Chow gives a good performance, integrating in the 112 min of the film a lot of emotions like anger, hate, heplessness, laughter (obviously), martial arts skills (although using CGI effects), love, dance and drama...The story is about a group of disciples from Shaolin monastery struggling to live in the city and one lame football wanna-be trainer with big ideas for winning the local football tournament. His main opponent is a unscrupulous and vicious man which has all the money and power to make an awesome team which can win the tournament with ease. The main character of the movie called "Steel leg" Fu (played by Stephen Chow) is a poor guy collecting cans and bottles to survive and he meets with this lame trainer, trying to share his philosophy with him. After a wonderfully crafted scene the trainer comes with an idea to make a football team and put it in the local tournament, where fortune and glory are. The two went to gather all of Fu's "brothers" from the monastery and tried to convince them to participate in the team. After some hillarious scenes representing all "brothers" in a very comical way, the team is ready to go. While learning the basics of the game, under the watchful eye of the trainer they were pit against a local team of amateurs and the result was devastating for the "brothers", but also had awaken their inner "Ch'i" and made them posses extraordinary skills. Once they have unlocked these skills they enter the tournament and start making their way to the cup...But at the final they were facing a brutal enemy with almost the same skills as theirs using a powerful drugs which made their aura to appear as black smoke around them...It's a great match to watch - intense fights and fast moves, superman-like kicks and ball direction, laughs, drama and win...If you liked "Kung Fu Hustle" then this one is definitely worth watching...All the best from sunny Bulgaria...
